I have been debating on posting this up, I had a pretty bad day today.
Went to see my Trojan, had to take and try my hatch for the Companionway..good news, it fits like a glove.
(Some of you will remember, I posted earlier that it was missing, and needed to make or find one, I found one)

bad news...
I lifted the engine bay compartment and noticed a crack in the port side exhaust manifold. to give you some idea, it is dead centre on the top and about 2 inches long
needless to say, my heart dropped, was almost in tears.

temperatures here have been all over the board, -7C one day, the next +15C, then back to -4C
engine has 848 hrs

I did some research, have choices, weld, or replace.
Don't think I'm going to make launch date

I am really feeling down right now.
Suggestions???

dude we can swap out a manifold in under 6 beers!!! 42 more sleeps till launch, do the math!!! NO WORRIES MATE!

and what is needed.

If Mercruisers, I wouldn't think it would be too hard to match it up.

Torcan, Rooferdave is right, it's an easy one. Having said that, what caused it, improper winterizing? If so, I'd be checking that engine carefully.

If you are looking at marineparts.com, check out marinemanifold.com... essentially the same company, marinemanifold is in BC, so no cross border shipping!

Torcan, if you have the manifold I'm thinking of, be careful. They are discontinued and the replacements have a different bolt pattern to which your riser and elbow will not fit. I suspect you have rear mounted elbows. Take a close look at the elbows at the top of the page in the link and compare to yours. I would also take measurements of the footprint and bolt pattern of the new ones and contact the supplier before you commit. Hope yours are different.

The passages of the cooling and exhaust sides can be tested. If the breach is on the outside only, it can be welded.

Martin up the street will weld em up no probs... if not John from bellville will, if he can't do it that day the shop next to 7 star tai will do it while you wait

Bill next door to us prob has the gaskets in stock (cool dude) if you have 318's they have some used ones there

I think we are also the ONLY club around that has a Beaver Dam and Beavers as well, saw it the other day walking on the ice!!!!!!!!

upon reflection Bill next door will get you the parts inside of a week usually and if they are wrong he will refund your dough!

Torcan, do you have a profile (side) shot of the elbow?

Just a caution, as mentioned earlier, don't just weld and assume all is good. You must test prior to install or you'll be making engine repairs as well in the summer!

I guess I agree with Big D - what caused it to crack and is there any other damage buried down there?
