Can anyone tell me about fresh water cooled chrysler 360CID engines. I have a F32 with 360's and they have what is called a half system for cooling, meaning the exhaust manfolds, elbows and risers are raw water cooled and the block is fresh water cooled. Was this a common option in 1977? Thanks for any reply's.

Yes

Yes - that is "common", as opposed to SeaWater cooled, where everything is cooled by sea water and you have no intercooler to a closed FWC'd system.

Capt Ross Thanks very much for the reply on the info on half system for the 1977 F32 with FWC 360 CID engines. I was puzzled because most of the earlier model 1976 F32's with FWC'd engines had the exhaust elbows cooled by fresh water coolant and only the manifolds and risers cooled by raw water ? but then again those model engines where 318's CID that I had looked at?? any reply's would be great Thanks.

Pilgrim-

I don't think there was ever an option to have just the (discharge) elbows cooled by coolant (what I presume your calling "fresh water"- raw water being sea water). The exhaust discharge elbows in a wet exhaust are always sea water cooled as the cooling water spills out with the exhaust to keep the rest of the system cool. Some systems used the same seawater to cool the exhaust manifolds (half system) and this allowed the use of a smaller heat exchanger for the engines coolant (less heat load on the coolant). The down side of course is that the manifolds become subject to corrosion and replacement along with the elbows.

I have an F-32 with Mercruiser 351’s, everything is FWC except for the elbows.

Jav Thanks for the info on the fresh water and sea water cooling on 360 cid engines. I have noticed that alot of the F32's with 318cid engines have fresh water coolant cooling the block and exhaust manifolds with sea water cooling the elbows, but have yet to see this type of piping on the 360 cid engines?? Thanks for any reply's
