I've done a few searches but not finding anything... I've got a 6 inch crack in the port side engine and an appointment to get the bottom painted Monday. The question is can it be welded until I can order a new one?

As Paul said ...if it has a crack on the outside, how do you know it's not cracked on the inside? The last thing you'd want is for coolant/water to get sucked back through an exhaust port.
Replace it.

Cracked manifold or cracked block?
Cracked manifold = replace! Why risk it? The manifold has to come off anyway - so replace it and be safe .
