318 starters

While I have my two 318s out of the boat I want to pop a new set of brushes in each starter. I have marked each starter as I do each part "P" for Port and "S" for starboard as the starboard engine is the reverse rotation engine.

Now that said the starters are in good shape bearing and bendix wise. Who can point me to a vendor for brush sets? The ones in the starters are working okay but they should be cheap enough for me to replace. I like to rebuild what came with my equipment rather than rely on after market rebuilders.

The port starter model is 2875827 and the starboard is 2875928.

as i just went through some starter/ring gear issues. i think the link below might reaffirm your rotations. the port engine on my f32 using the same number starter you list is actually a ccw rotating staarter. as far as the brushes a local starter rebuilder should be able to help. however if you are in search of a drive gear i can help these are appartenly becoming harder to find. i found a company that all they do is rebuild these.

Thanks, I have bob at Beacon working on the brushes, I figure they should be available at a local rebuild shop as well but I try to give our guys some business.

My engines are in V drive configuration with the engines facing the stern. Engine rotation is not a question here as both engines were marked with an orange arrow from Chrysler and the starboard V drive is also marked in the the same way.

FYI O'reilly Auto parts has a marine catalogue and were able to order the brushes for the starters. BTW Bob at Beacon could not get anything but new starters. They will be in Thursday at $20 per set.

O'rielly sent the brushes back before I could pick them up knowing I would be gone for a couple of days. Phooey on them. I got both starters completely rebuilt at a shop for $50 each, brushes, bushings turn armature and lube the bendix.

Good to go now.
