Today, Friday, May 6, 2011.....I bring her home!!! Stopped at the yard today to find my boat "Time Warp" missing from the yard.............after some minor investigation, I found her FLOATING at the dock. The machanic was aboard doing some final checks. Apparently she wanted to do some leaking at the shafts and one rudder.....mechanic says this is normal for a boat that has been out of the water for awhile, he tightened stuff up and all is well. I fired the new motor and was happy to see 60psi of oil pressure at idle. Didn't have my bag of gold with me so I'll pick her up in the morning and head back to my marina, about 30-45 minutes away.......I'll report back after iIve put her through the paces..................John

Put some liability on them and ensure they give you a "break-in procedure" in writing, then stick to it. Hope all goes well on the journey back. Have fun!

Home At Last..........picked her up yesterday and brought her home. Paid the bill (ouch), topped off the tanks and headed home. Put her through the paces and she did great...varied my RPM coming home and didn't run her over 3300rpm. I get about 20 knots at 3100-3200 rpm. That's with a clean bottom and fresh paint. Got back to my berth and spent 4 hrs cleaning her, sitting on the hard exposed to the elements made a mess of her.

mytrojan asked me a couple questions last week, didn't have answers then but do now..

When you are back in the water it would be interesting to know your thoughts on:
* would you still go rebuild vs new?.....the decision to rebuild vs new was mainly the result of having "one off" engines to begin with. These engines came from merc's test lab in mich and were different than anything the mechanic had seen. They are 350's with 330hp....we decided to rebuild using existing cam to keep consistent with the remaining motor......time will tell if this was the right decision.

* from the initial rebuild quote- how much overage should you budget for these unknown items........I think I did good here. The original estimate was for $6591 and included the haul out, power wash, bottom paint and new zincs. It included $500 for mics parts, fluids and supplies. The final bill was $6852. Unexpected replacements were the sea water pump, and oil/trans cooler.....I think the mechanic did a good job here.
