manifold stud fun

Found out that the second stud on the port engine starboard engine was broken off...actually missing when I went to change the manifold gasket. Followed the normal procedure of drilling it out going up in size after each hole until I was ready for the "easy out" to be tapped in and pull the stump out.....until the easy out broke off in the hole. Needless to say things from plasma cutting to machine shop immediately sprang to mind and finally decided to try and drill it out with diamond and carbide bits. After about 4 hours FINALLY got both the easy and the stud free....however there is minor damage to the threads at the bottom of the hole in the head. My question is since antifreeze runs through this do I need to bore it out and helicoil it or if it snugs up tight and there is no wiggle or play am I okay to put the manifild back in place? Sorry for the long winded post.

Thanks,Brian

I would use locktite and make sure I meet torque spec. If it strips trying to get torque spec then I would either helicoil or go up a size. Been there done that.

Your not getting coolant coming out of the hole are you ? you should not .
I would put nothing on the threads . when you say manifold bolt do you mean manifold to head ? If you talking about the riser bolts it may go into a coolant jacket.

On my 318, The four studs at the four corners of the engine that attach the exhaust manifold to the heads go into the coolant passage. Not the best setup if you ask me. The inner studs do not.

I am getting coolant out of the holes...how bad it that??? These are the 6 studs on each side that screw into the head and go through the manifold and are kept on with a bolt.

I never remember getting any coolant out of those holes but if it coming out of more then one it must be normal , I would carry on
