Advantage of rebuilding Crusader 270 in 1985 F32

Post by F32Project »

Is it best to rebuild Crusdaer 270s in 1985 F32 or purchase two new crate engines. The new engines may have EFI and FWC as this doens't get done very often in a person's lifetime. Any ideas on the cost of a rebuild with carburators and raw water cooling (I am in fresh water). Thank you very much.

The cost of a rebuild will vary on what it needs , could be anything from ring and bearings . To block/boring and crank replacement heads manifolds risers etc.

what is wrong with the engines right now ?

I just rebuilt the starboard engine in my 30' Sea Raider. This boat had been re-powered about 10 years ago but I had developed a major oil pressure issue in the starboard motor. These motors were throttlebody injected and fresh water cooled. I chose rebuild to best match the remaining good port motor. As it turned out, the STB motor had spun the number 3 main and we didn't reuse the block or crank, so basically a total rebuild. Cost was right at $5.5K for doing the one motor......keep in mind that I had a mechanic, machinist and boatyard to the work.....not me......I could have put a remanded merc motor in for about the about the same cost. I like the idea of having local people responsible for the rebuild and warranty.....if there is an issue, they are right here.....no pulling motors and shipping long blocks...........just my two cents, only have about 6 hrs on the new motor so not much history yet but so far so good..................John
