raw water stoppage

Just as a tip in my opinion a raw water strainer is not an option but a necessity.

As I am disassembling my 318 it is apparent that a strainer should have been used by Trojan as Chrysler suggests in its manual. The raw water hose from the sea cock to the tranny oil cooler was totally full of debris and stopped up, little if any water would pass. The tranny oil cooler was the stopping point as it has many 1/8 inch passages through it that the water flows before going to the engine. The previous owner, I will bet you, had a heat problem and he or a hack mechanic removed the thermostat housing was void of a thermostat. THERE ARE MANY HACK SO CALLED MECHANICS THAT SHOULD BE BANNED FROM THE TRADE.

The solution was simple clean raw water pickup and lines and install a strainer.

That said what reasonable priced strainer would you guys recommend.

Perko glass and brass with lid held down by wing nuts. If using enbows, use the right ones; they are brass with a smooth round 90 deg flow not an abrupt 90 deg.
