My Onan works well but it's quit loud meaning that it more then easily heard. It sits between the engines even with the transmissions. There is very little sound proofing in the center hatch. Was there a sound proof cover that origanly came installed? I have an 86' 10 meter express. Any thoughts would be great.

I have the same boat and gen. no sound shield cover on the gen. Many people have commented as to how quiet it is. A couple of years ago I did install cocpit carpeting, I think that brought the sound level down also. To give you an example I would say that if I were to start one engine , and gauge the sound level. I would say my gens. sound level is less than 1/2 of that engine.
When I'm anchored and have the gen on it's very obvious, like your neighbor cutting their grass when your sitting on your porch. You always know it's their. When it's turned off your like, ahhh now I can hear myself think. Going to do some sound proofing. I'll let you know how it works out. Although it's not on the top of my very long list so it may be awhile.

got a question about the Onan myself
I have a 1985 10m flybridge.
The Onan won't turn.
When I hit the starter the relay only clicks.
When I short out the posts on the relay, it clicks and draws enough current to dim the 12v bulbs, even when on shore power.
Still working on trying to get the crank to turn, but no luck yet.
Most folks I am talking with think I need to get the start out, and at the same time force to flywheel to turn.
How do you get at the starter, it looks like a real bugger to get at - underneath and all.
Do I have to pull the unit? Yeesh that'd be nasty.

You should start your own thread for this but I'll offer up my 2 cents here. Before pulling anything off, check all your battery cable connections at battery and genny for tight clean connections. Do a voltage drop test with a meter at the battery and check voltage while cranking; it should not drop much more than about 11 volts. Have the battery propperly charged and load tested. If all checks out, then the starter is a consideration. Curious though, why are your lights going dim? They should not be running off the genny battery. That's for the genny only.

Chris, making sure it is running propperly, tuned to spec, clean carb, hardware tightened down properly, and engine mounts in good shape will help reduce running noise.
What ever you do, don't try and enclose it as a friend of mine tried before letting me in on his plan. The MCCKs vapour lock too easily in my opinion. He ended up having to remove his work of art.
