I have two timing mark plates on my starboard engine model RH350.
There is one on the upper left portion of the timing cover which is rusted and I can't read any of the marks. There is another plate located on the lower portion which I can read for the most part. Which one do I refer to when I set the timing? I don't know why they would put one down so low where it's hard to see and shine a timing light on. I think the correct setting is 10 degrees BTC. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The reason why there are two marks, is that many motors are used in vans and other chassis model which makes viewing and timing adjustments difficult from the top. So GM uses different model timing covers.
Best to bring number 1 cylinder to TDC (both valves close), see where TDC lines up and use that mark.
There should also be a timing mark on the flywheel you can use with the bell housing mark.

Pull number one spark plug, disable ignition system, put your thumb in the spark plug hole and bump/crank engine over, you'll feel the pressure as the piston comes up on the compression stroke. Then you'll be close, look at marks, then crank by hand, to the TDC mark on which ever mark is referenced.
The number 1 piston will also come up on the exhaust stroke but you are looking for the compression stroke...this is when both intake and exhaust valves are closed.

The timing marks on both of my engines are at the one oclock position if your looking at the front of the engine. Also my '84 454 crusaders (350hp) call for 10 degrees BTC. Hope this helps.
