Dead spot on the flywheel

I have Chrysler 360s with velvet drive trans. The flywheel on the port engine has a dead spot,how much of an azz ache is this job . Thanks John

How hard is it ? that depends on you skill level . you will have to unbolt the shaft and rear mount to stringer bolts . ( you may have to loosen the front )raise the trans and rear of the engine . (you may have to remove some hoses to raise the engine ) support the engine and remove the trans ( very heavy apox 150 lbs) . then remove the starter and the bell housing , The remove the flywheel and replace the ring gear ( heat and press on) . I can do this in a day no problem , But its the type of thing I do .


Is your starter a rear mount ? if it is pull it and see if the ring gear may be coming off the flywheel

Thanks Prowler I pulled the starter and two teeth were MIA, I think one was already gone. I can do the job myself just thinking about how crappy it is :( thanks

while you're doing the work think of all the good things you can buy with the money saved by DIY....makes me feel better every time I bust a knuckle. :wink:

Thats true . But only it if the job within your skill , knowledge and comfort level . I have made many a dollar fixing a owners or "Buddys " repair .

My reply was to your post and not directed to any one . I said that as I have seen people get over there heads .

He said he could do it and I don't have any reason not to believe him

I find the biggest headache is lining up the tranny's input shaft splines to that of the engine. The tranny's wieght makes subtle positional adjustments difficult to do. The slightest angle off will make it impossible to insert. Be patient.

I use 2 longer bolts and slide it in place
