They can take up to 7 quarts including oil filter depending on instalation angle. Start off with no more than 4 and check before starting engine to fill filter then recheck. Chrysler recommends SAE 30 for operating above 30 deg F. I'm sure some folks will chime in with more exotic stuff.

THT ? LOL not on there to much anymore but stop bye every once in a while , but my blood pressure can't take it .
My choice for my last 5 boats and most I work on is 15w-40 . However 30W is also a very good choice . And if you have a 2 stroke DD 40W is your only choice .

According to my 318 manual, the cast aluminum pan version holds six plus filter (Approximately 7 total)
The pressed pan version, like a car 318 holds 4 plus filter (approximately 5 total)

Remember the amount can vary depending on angle of engine

Also the 318 manual lists two 4 bbl intake, a 3 degree which my v drives have and an 11 degree which is for others. IMO I do not think these angles have much effect.

no Rotella or Penzoil in most cases both meet gas and diesel specs . the merc 15w-40 is diesel not sure its rated gas . they make a 25W-40 for their gas engines . I have used Rotella or Penzoil 15W-40 in merc engines , even thought I don't believe they list 15w-40 for the gas engines Crusader and marine power do . And they use the same base engines .
Why Rotella or Penzoil ? because its readily available at a good price and meets all the specs .
