Gentlemen, I am considering a 89' 10 meter.
Gas - 700 hrs. 4 year old bottom paint.
Have not gone inside boat, will have a survey preformed if interested.
Any help with what to look for, or pay close attention to?
The boat started out in Florida, transported to the Great Lake area then brought to local lake.

A few of the key questions:

Last December I bought a 1985 10 meter on the hard. It worked well. Paid under $21,000, very pleased with my purchase. Genset was there, but needs major repair.

Bottom paint - 4 years no redo? WTF !! But that gives you an idea what you're dealing with, and the owner probably knows he neglected her, too.

Is there a generator? probably a 6.5KW Onan MCCK if so. Does it work?

How long was she in salt water?

Check the zinc anodes, it'll give you an idea how well she was maintained, you can use poor findings in your favor if you go ahead with it. Check esp - the zincs in the engine. You can find out how to get to them by downloading the manual from Crusader. You'll also find zinc on the propshafts, and rudders. Maybe also in genset.

All the usual stuff of course - motors work? hull, deck condition, etc.

Hull should be expected to be in good shape, they were made to last.

A/C - does it work?

how's the vacuflush system work?

How's the electrical? Electrical problems are bitchy to track on my 1985.

700 hours is very low usage. are the motors rebuilt? if not, you may be looking at a creampuff. Assuming we're taking crusader 454's, they should be good for 2000-3000 hours. Maybe more.

Check the motor compt first, what's the general appearance? that's another good indicator of the owner.

See if the seals around the prop shafts leak.

Any stray oil in the bilge?

Thanks! I haven't met with the owner, yet. The engines run and the gen set will turn over but no spark. I will check the the other items when I meet with him.

Without restating what has already been said, search the threads here for more detailled information.

Then make an offer pending the survey.

The survey allows you to further negotiate the price in your favor.

Keep in mind that some parts for the MCCK are very expensive.

There's a guy I've spoken with at Cummin Bridgeway about that Onan. Cummin bought Onan some time ago. Spark plugs for example are $200 each.

Whoa! $200 for spark plug!
Are there two separate a/c units?

The Plugs are high But not that high if I am not mistaken



AC units ? none or 1 or 2 depending on the way the boat was ordered

If you are serious about purchasing, put a deposit on her and spend a day with a good surveyor going over her...Good luck and keep us posted.

that's why you don't buy them from a dealer...most parts can be had at E-bay...lot of good info on site from work I did on mine last yr...also the cck parts fit the mcck

i think your onan guy was pulling your chain. the plugs were never 200 bucks. now, the shielded plug wires, that's a horse of a different color. they run anywhere from 250-350 for the set. now, there is a way to retrofit the mcck using the standard 'cck' coil and regular plugs and wires.
beaconmarinebob told me this is an eary and fairly inexpensive retrofit.
