Good thing you clarified. Doubt the yardmaster would be too impressed when the honeywagon stopped by to top up your tanks.

Though it probably smells about the same if you burn it.

Didn't say I didn't like them, just that they reek.

Never met a Mercedes diesel I didn't like. Might even consider them when its time to repower the Trojan except for the fact I would have to get a truck to back down my driveway to the dock in order to get fuel. Don't really care for the logistics on that just to be able to fuel my boat. Marinas here just don't sell diesel fuel.

Beauty here in Texas is you can avoid fuel tax for off road use. Mercedes is not the only vehicle that uses diesel, there are as good or better.
But for reliability and runs everytime give me diesel, I wish my boat had em but I guess Gassers are if for now.

Here in NY you can avoid taxes by moving to another state.

Boat gas is around 4.59 a gallon (yes thats US money).
I am aware other folks make diesel automotive engines. Its really hard to beat a Mercedes OM 617 for reliability and longevity though. I've seen several in normal passenger vehicles with 350,xxx plus on them. There is a cab driver somewhere overseas that has over a million documented miles on one. I digress though. All I was saying originally is that I am most likely going to have to pass on diesel repower options, Its probably GM gassers for me. That and P-fish prolly learned to make coffee from Det. Nick Yemana from the sounds of things.

Yep Diesle stinks, but nothing worse than an old carbed gasser that is blowing black smoke from an over rich fuel mixture. All new gassers have a lot of Fuel controls that help s avoid that.
That said I would do diesel in a minute if it was cost effective. Better engine design. But alas I am stuck with gasser.
My point about the mercedes is we build diesels here that are just as good. Matter fact the Asians do a good job too.
