Where can I find a replacement/upgrade all around light for a F-28. The pole and side braces are OK, but the PO did something to the light and its held together with a SS hose clamp and comes on intermittent. I'd like to go the LED route but haven't been able to locate a "kit" to change out the light. Actually, I'd like to go LED on all nav lights and the stern light.
This all around is the long fwd bend pole fwd of the flybridge.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I believe there are Leds that are a direct replacement for regular bulbs, West seems to have a good assortment. Have not used them myself as yet.

Sounds like the OP has issues with the integrity of his light housing though. Maybe its time to replace the whole fixture on the top of his mast?

Yes you can get LED replacement bulbs... I think you are looking for a bayonet bulb - not a festoon bulb as shown. If you have the older set up.

You can also buy the bulb sockets if you are having issues there.

I replaced all of mine with LED bulbs... You have to get side firing bulbs that emit light up and around. For Red Nav light order Red LED - - Green NAV order Green LED - do not order white as it will over power the lens color.

Festoon is for your stern light - and the LED festoon gives off a good deal of light both for safety and for illumination of your swim platform at night.

Once you go with the LED's - people will easily recognize your boat at night. Good and bad.

Guys, check e-bay, I ordered all 1156 for my cabin (2 pack for $5) and festoon for stern ($2.15), they're coming from Hong Kong but I'm in no hurry.

Just a couple of cautions; if you are going to replace nav lights with retrofit LED bulbs, ensure that they meet coast guard requirements for your state/province etc. ie 2 mile visibility...not all will meet these requirements. Not all LEDs are created equal. Some are better than others and actually live up to the LED reputation. There are inferior products out there. The high output/powered units are better than the bulb units in my opinion. They cost more but you get what you pay for. Also when retrofitting, ensure that the operating ranges (voltage) are logical for our application. I have seen some advertized for auto and marine that would not stand up very long when operating while a charger or alternator are putting out full charge at 14+ volts.

Here in germany i'ts absolutely a 'no go' to use this Hongkong LED's for cars. Licence plate, winker, sidelight and
sometimes Daylight-rumming-lights made in this style is criminal

For example, in eBay yo can get RL-LED's for 20 bucks, but 5 times more expensive's save your life

I prefer quality.

For about $8 I figured I'd give them a try, if not I'll splurge for the good stuff. I'll let you guys know.

I like quality too Heiner. Which is why I drive Mercedes only and always ditch the stupid US DOT headlights and re-install the proper German headlights.

I like the smart car in your pic. Mercedes engines in those.

I am definately going to get a few of the quality type festoon LED bulbs for my transom light. One to put in, and a couple to have around for spares in case I need them. I may also change the masthead fixture to one of the new Perko or Hella units which accepts the festoon style as well. Its a cheap upgrade and eliminates the worries and assaches that come with 30-40 yr old bayonett style fixtures. ( corrosion, worn contacts, etc). Dunno what I will do with the red and green yet.

check out perko's red and green the tear drop shaped ones look nice and are bright...

When all else fails theere is always the
