(insert silly question) Does the 318 have a heat exchanger?

My dad was over helping me take the bell housing off the old 318 to put on the rebuilt 318 and I asked him where does the fresh water go? He looked and said it should go in the heat exchanger but we did not see one. I have the oil cooler but that is sea water intake.

Is mine missing from the old 318 and the rebuilt one or does it not have or need a heat exchanger?

Thanks

some engines are closed cooled (fresh water ) and some are raw water cooled. it really depends on each situation.

Yep, some are raw water cooled, some are fresh water cooled.
Below is a diagram of a 318 Fresh water cooled expansion tank and components, or similar.
