not sure if this has been asked but here it comes again. I have a 1979 f26 with a chrysler 318 . Which chevy engine will allow me to utilize the original transmission ? I was told there was a chevy that would line up with the stock tanny with no mods needed. lastly if I was to go with the chevy motor what kind of issues will I run into when mounting to the boat? The wedge blocking would have to be changed or can they be used with the different engine ? thanks for any input

Why not use a marine 318 rebuild? Nothing will need to be changed

You should be able to use the tranny but you'll need to change the bell housing...

As Jamie said With the correct bell housing no problem. the front mounts will have to be adjusted on the chevy may or may not need the wedge blocking depending on the mounts ( there is lots of styles ) , the trans mounts should be fine with some possible adjustments
make sure its the same rotation or you will have rotate the pump and change the prop .
I assume you have a velvet dive ??

yes its a velvet drive. reason for the possible motor change is the parts being readily available in thsi neck of the woods , its still up in the air which way to go but just want something very VERY reliable
