Any reason the fuel filters have to be in the engine room?

On my 10m Express the fuel filter/water separators were installed in the engine room. I am contemplating putting them in the rear compartment. Space is a premium in the engine room as it is, and it would make for a cleaner install. The compartment I am referring to is the big one behind the engine room (where the fuel tank is). I would still have great access to them.

The only issue I can think of is possible vapors and the safety aspect. But obviously the fuel tank is there so I wouldn't be adding a fuel component in a place that isn't already covered in the initial design.

Sounds like it would work fine but I thought I'd check to see what you guys think. cheers.

That's where mine are installed on my 83 10 meter express.
