Summit Fridge Parts

The fridge on our Tri-Cabin is not doing well. It does still cool but the defrost timer is shot so that I have to manually defrost it about once a week in the summer.

Had an applicance person come down and look at it this fall - and he confirmed my thoughts on the defrost timer.

While it still cools nicely, the evaporator under the freezer compartment gets so full with ice it basically chokes off the cooling.

My big problem is - do I really want to pop off the big salon hatch in the Spring to replace the fridge? My leaning is a big NO. The problem with winter here is the sitting and thinking about boat projects like this.

Is there anyone out there who has found a source for these old fridge parts or come up with a way to re-cool a fridge box?

If I really need to I may just bite the bullet and take off the hatch and replace the sofa bed as well, but would really rather not.

On a side note - checked on my tarp today - used the Kover Klamp system to build a frame with conduit - looks real good here in the frozen tundra of Maine.

Can you post a picture of defrost timer?

Defrost timers aren't difficult to replace if you get the correct one. Take the unit to an appliance repair shop and tell them to match it up. Even if they don't have the exact replacement, electrically, they should be able to point out how to hook it up for your application. What concerns me is that you're getting that much build up on the evap in a week. You either open the fridge a lot during the course of a week and it's hot and humid where you are, or you have a door seal leak as well as a bad timer.

PS, label the wiring and the timer when you pull it off.
