lookin' good, a few of us did this last yr and used the vinyl plank Allure at homedepot and are happy with...it beats cleaning carpet....

Has everyone been floating these, gluing them?? Tony, what's the HD stuff you're talking about?

I floated mine , its from Home Depot it was a mahagony hardwood fixed on a laminate plank. The allure is a vinyl plank that also "floats" the allure is very durable and attatches to itself on two leading edges that contain a 3m type adhesive. lol ok Ive been installing flooring for 20yrs and finally found a question on here I can ans. correctly:P

Ok, I know the vinyl now. The mahogany flooring you mentioned is the engineered stuff. I installed the same in a condo because of the concrete floor. Good stuff, very stable, and refinishable too....you know, real wood. I like it

i glued mine with bruce hardwood glue.

the wood is a laminate, but fresh luwon was installed first.

I'd be interested to hear over time how folks who chose to use an adhesive vs. folks who chose to float the floor are satisfied (or not) with thier install. I am wondering about hull flex and planks popping up in the glued situation as opposed to the floating.

Here is a single shot of my companion way on my boat. In a covered slip, not much light. I used the Allure Teak floating with vinyl adhesive edge.



These next photos are of Tony's boat. (Alexander38) He used the same product albeit Brazillian Cherry which closely matches teak.

it looks like it has 5 coats of poly and then wetsanded with 2000 grit. its awfully shiny you can see yourself in this floor. the downside is that it shows scratches very easily. Idea here is when shes sea worthy we use a rubber backed carpet to protect it when were out and playing. only problem I could see with a gluedown install is that should an area get to wet and swell up it would make it alot more trouble to replace the one piece. they all look good. the vinyl plank though is def. a tougher product that resists scratches alot more then mine but I couldnt resist the high gloss look of wood

i used vinyl flooring that floats (incase i need to remove it in a hurry) and it seems to work very well as its easy to clean, rubber and doesn't skid and as i found out doesn't burn either

I glued mine down with vinyl floor glue. the galley deck is floating it had only on small hatch under the step down ladder for the bilge pump..The other hatches and decks are glued. There's 7 hatches in the salon/saloon and then the pump for the froward head all had to be made do to the carpet being rolled over the edges on the old ones so they were to small, Jamie didn't post them but the reason I chose the Allure was in the V berth the curves shows of the hull needed to be formed to and the stuff bent great with a little heat from a heat-gun....and the Cherry matched our dark teak and it has some roughness to it for the pup's to walk on.... be glad to give any info....

Funny you mention that, I buy and rent rowhomes in Baltimore and always use Allure because it holds up great, and is easy to put down. I have 2 boxes of Cherry left over and will be doing my cabin with it.

I've used the Teak, Country Pine, Maple, and African wood designs, the stuff is great!

forgot to add I cut the gray 3M tape off before gluing down.
