do you guys usually antifoul paint your props, rudders, and trim tabs?

Yes . for the props I use Zinc Coat list about $ 19

prop speed is also good but at about $250 its pricey
for trim tabs I use bottom paint

Propspeed. I haven't used it yet but those who have, highly recommend it for coating the running gear.

Unless you have a Carver. Then nothing but gold paint will do...

Paul, Tony has Platinum props. Expensive, usually found on higher end yachts but nothing sticks to them. Just have to be careful he doesn't run over anything. Like he says, if you can afford them, nothing beats them...

I don't paint or coat any of them. Never been a problem.

I've done all three: bottom paint, prop speed and zinc coat. Prop speed was everything advertised & a bit tedious to apply ($$$$$ whew). I was surprised at how soft zinc coat was - gotta be cautious about dinging it before launching. Bottom paint (I use ablative ABC #3) over metal etching, worked just as well as as zinc coat. It really comes down to conditions. How long between hauls, diver cleaning frequency and how bad you let things get before hauling or cleaning. IMO if your staying on top of growth, bottom paint is the best bang for the buck. On a quick haul the zinc coat. But I'll also admit that prop speed perfomed the best.

Mell , I have had Much better luck with Zinc coat ( 2-3 coats ) then bottom paint No grow for a year .bottom paint never worked for me I may try prop speed this year but the cost is nuts .

thanks! wife and I are divers, so I think i may get away with bottom paint as we will be upkeeping our boat on a regular basis. maybe I was just dazed at the 4 coats I saw the OP had applied. when I got the trim tap pump off I had to kick the tab to break the paint in the hinges, there is NO way these tabs were usuable. Maybe a thin coat on the hinges next time after I renew them, and working them buy hand as they dry?
