All your fantastic boats have inspired me. The Head in our 1978 F30 needs up grading or remodeling, because my wife says so. My biggest question is how easy is it to get that original tan heavy duty wall covering off, and what is a good replacement. I would like to know what others have done to upgrade, any tips hints or photos would be appreciated. I learned along time ago that "Happy Wife equals Happy Life."

My experience is that it doesn't come off easy at all...it does however paint really well. If its on tight, that may be an option.

My boat had a similar thick wall paper plastic wall covering in some places. After forty years it looked pretty shabby. I used some thin foam and marine vinyl to make to cover it up. It is easy to clean and has held up well so for.

I just covered it with vinyl wallpaper (well Admiral really)..

I also replaced counter, sliding cabinet doors and backsplash by using old as a template for new made by getting my local counter manufacturer to laminate to my new marine plywood pieces. (he actually wanted the pieces to be oversized for lamination so he cut them down to match the old templates)

Has anybody used the white plastic dimpled sheets that Home Depot has? I see this stuff in a lot of public washrooms and showers now.

I am thinking of using it for the ceiling in the head. Right now it's a white pressed board. It's in good shape but I removed it to do some wiring and am considering replacing it. The stuff at HD is at the top of my list so far.

Can you be more specific on the "white dimpled plastic sheets" at Home Depot. What size are these, what department? I am familiar with the white melmaline sheets, are these similar? Thanks again for all the information.
With a little luck and planning this should be a fun project.

They are called Stabilt panels and I think you can get them in 4x8 sizes for like 30 bucks, and I'm pretty sure I've seen smaller sizes too. Also different trim available for corners etc or channels to put two side by side. The store should at the very least have literature on them and be able to order but I see them in most HDs now. They are plastic and really easy to clean...read the reviews.
