I'm wiring up an AIS unit to my GPS which is hardwired. I've heard there are times when you want to turn off the AIS box so thinking about the accessory switches at the helm. Both are unused.

How exactly are those wired. Both 2 terminals, one going to ground and the other to the backlighting. I was expecting them to be "HOT" and then I could just tie the AIS box to the switch.

How do these get wired so you have switched power (with only two terms on the back of the switch).

Bob, use a continuity tester and find the terminals that are closed when the switch is on. Did the same on mine to power addittional add ons.
Did you already check for 12 volts at the switch ? Are all the switches on at the main panelboard ? I had located a unused terminal at the terminal block at the back of panelboard (located at mid-cabin storage area).

i use both of mine for the bottom machine, autopilot, radar and GPS unit, but splitthe requirements evenly.

Flip the two switches and everything powers up on it's own

yes, I have a "powerprobe" and it only shows ground regardless of the switch position.

Don't I need a 4 terminal switch though? That's really my question. It looks like the factory switch only has two terminals... one connected to ground and the other has a thin purple wire for the backlighting.

Do I double up on the backlight side of the switch? Did you guys have to run a 12v jumper to make the switch live or should it be already?

they are already pre-wired to be live. I thought I needed a "feed" to the switch but it's already connected. It was switched off with one of the switches on the panel which powers my fume detector.
