Fuel Gauge issues

Hey all,
When I bought my boat the gas gauge didn't work....so I replaced the sending unit thinking that that was it. Well I decided to mess with it and it still doesn't work. The sending unit is properly hooked up and grounded, and I know that the gauge works because I grounded that too and it pegged. ...IT STILL DOESN'T WORK! I GIVE UP! What else can I do besides ignore it?

Maker sure the gage has a good ground , and try swaping gages with your other one

do these use floats? if so could it be sticking? i am taking my new style garmin setup off the other boat and adding things to it for the trojan, im thinking of spending the $ on an electronic fuel gauge system since i have all ready paid the $bucks$ for the network hub

Are you reinstalling your fuel tanks now?

Make sure your fuel tank is grounded properly. Also, the sender must be of the correct resistance for the gauge, there are different ones and they will not work if not matched.

Wife got me 2 garmins. Small screen ones. I bought the hub from a friend that allows you to add features like fuel, weather , extra gps, etc I was looking at the fuel setup, looks neat but kinda expensive and not really sure how accurate it is. I'll post the model #s

dont think I can afford a weather system anytime soon. but i think its all neat stuff, even tho cells phone have just about everything you need these days

i've set up a lowrance nmea200 network on my boat using fuel flow, and temp sensors. they work well. very easy. the lowrance fuel sensor is a minimum .6 gal/hr.
i did notice on the garmin fuel sensor it states a minimum flow rate of 2 gal /min. "(Maximum fuel flow rate for the GFS 10 is 50 gal/hr (189.27 L/hr), and the minimum flow rate is 2 gal/hr (7.57 L/hr)".i know on my f32 chrysler 318's i am less than 2 gal/hr up until around 1200 rpms. if that garmin doesnt read that low you may see some inconsistanies with your accuracy. never seen them in person but just noticing the specs on them.

thanks! yea im still learning and reading, but you make a lot of sence. ill look into lowrance and see if they sell just a fuel and temp system with maybe a small screen. thats a big difference between the 2

i am using the lowrance hds series. i installed the nmea2000 network and have connected several items to it. but it may be more stuff to it than you want or need.
the garmin would be fine but you need to verify what the minimum flow rate reading is. somebody on here may know. i am just going with the specs listed.

lowrance does sell this
http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine ... s/LMF-400/
and it is a nmea2000 device. so temp, levels etc can be fitted to it.

I'm using the Floscan Twin Scan. Wish I had it installed years ago.

If you install with the Floscan, you'll never rely on those fuel gauges again. Mine are extremely accurate to about 1 gallon for each fill up and use.
