wow im begining to think maybe some kind of miss comunication when these engines were ordered. this will make the third thing wrong with the new engines. i went to set the distributor today and noticed there is no gear or slot in there to catch the end of the distributor post. i think this is major. i emailed the manufacturer with these pictures to advise. what do you guys think? there are 2 pics of the distributor, 2 of the old engine showing the gear and slot, and 1 pic showing the new engine with no gear and slot.

That gear, (oil pump drive shaft and gear) with the lower shaft, is what the slot of the distributor shaft locks into. Did you forget to remove the oil pump drive and gear from old engine?

Distributor drive gear should be removed and reused, I have on for a standard rotation engine, I can provide if necessary. They are a slip fit into the engine, with a slot for the distributo to nestle in. The gear has a mark on one cog that should point towards the front left intake manifold bolt when inserting the distributor, when #one cylinder is at Top Dead Center. :)

i did not remove an oil pump drive shaft gear. i didnt know i had to. so how do i remove it? it has to come out of the bottom right? i will flip the old block over in the morning and have a look. i figured a new long block would could with all internal parts like gears.?. but i will check it out. thanks...

Comes out through top. From the bottom, use a drift and tap it up and out.

when you flip the old block over it will probably fall out. I have an extra opposite side as Larry  if you need it. Mine is the reverse motor.

Cool Larry and I were worried you may not have old blocks anymore. You won't have to drive them out. I just went out and rotated my engine stand and mine fell out, now I have to make sure I I put it back in correctly, I keep testing myself for some stupid reason

If you have a strong magnet or heavy duty long needle nose type pliers, you may be able to lift them out and saving tipping the blocks over.

Mine came out easy, I did not know it either. So when I turned block over they fell out, Oil pump still in engine. As I recall you can also reach in through intake valley and lift it up with you fingers but not 100% sure.

your right. all i did was push up on the end the goes into the oil pump while i pulled up with a pair of lond neddle nose they both came out real easy. and the std rot engine installed very easy with #1 tdc it went together very simple. the rev rot eng not so much. it seems its missing the shaft bushing. the bushing hold the shaft very snug when dropped into place. and also from what i can tell it gives the gear a surface to ride on the oils itself through that tiny slot in the top of the bushing. i could not drive this out of either engine. where could i get one of these. i contacted the man. about this but have not heard back from them yet. they will most likly send me one. the 2 pic will show both new engines 1 with bushing and 1 without.

Usually they just fall out or are easy to lift
