Shaft coupler reinstall

For those that are interested, I cleaned up shafts with emory strip, inserted keys in keyway, then to reninstall I heated the coupler to 400 degree in oven. They tapped on with a brass hammer very easily. Watched in the set screw holes to get alignment and screwed in sent screws. It was a piece of cake. It helped having a vice that could hold the shaft verticle, of course using soft aluminum jaws in the vice.

Also for those that are interested there is a machinest standard I found to calculate the clearance at a given temperature, I assume for steel it is:

.0000064 X tempertaure = the amount in thousands of increased clearance. In my case worked out to .0025 at 400 degree which was adequate to facilitate the install without superhuman effort. :D

BTW if you were doing a pressed on bearing, which I have done, it was recomended to me to use no more than 250 degrees, I did and the bearing dropped on a shaft with no force and grease was intact. :D
