I have been researching these differeneces for a week. Some like mine have 2 single ports of exhaust (dual), some are Y directed from the engine (single). I am wandering if I can Y mine off the motor, run striaght then Y again out my port holes. Or any other ideas of direction. I am designing my decking and looking to add fish lockers. Any free space helps. What is the purpose on these boats for Y exhaust like a car? Same engine as mine so why is mine dual exhaust?

Jeff my f28 withe two 318s have each engine into one four inch exhaust. Maybe that is why your engine said 235?

My F26 with a single Chrysler 225 (318) has twin exhaust, with one exhaust per exhaust manifold. There is no cross-over tube to equalize the pressure between the two. The engine runs very well with this setup.

Nothing wrong with going to single exhaust , It will sound better too IMO. Its very possible it came will single exhaust and was changed , seen this done many times . ( some people like the noise :) )

I will try and get a pic for you Jeff of mine as you requested. I have just completely forgotten every time I am at the boat.

Ok thanks, heck I forgot I asked. I have found a couple online pics of the Y pipe but they are close up engine pics. I would be interested in seeing how the entire run looks, btw when I shake my mufflers they sound like a box of rocks. Should i replace them or just clean them out? Guess I will only need one of them now.

If they are the rubber ones, you cannot get them and will have to use something different as I am doing. Mine had two of the rubber ones per engine. It will not have one 4 inch one per engine.

The rubber ones had baffles inside which I will bet you are no longer there, exhaust just passes straight through.

You could use and exterior muffler if you're looking for more space inside, they are rubber. http://www.foreandaftmarine.com/mufflersSALISBURY.htm

This site says they have rubber in-line ones
