Busted apart a very large, very old closet hutch and it hits me! this is real good wood!. So I studied a little and I do beleave that it is ELM. Any thoughts of using this for small repair work in the Trojan? Its heavy and strong. I dont have a whole lot I can do with it, but small backing peices. would you use it? I have alot and about 6 different sizes

I found this:
"Elm is used for structural purposes where the wood is permanently wet, in fishing boats and barges, for dock work and pilings"

hmmmm thanks! leads me to wander, why make a Hutch out of it? I looked and looked and matched the grain to ELM. I do beleave I may have scored and saved a little money!

I was just looking around for uses in Marine applications, doesn't stop wood from being used in furniture though.
I was just trying to see what uses it had in boats. You could probably use it in the cabinetry ?
BTW...what happened to your avatar?

You did good thanks! I wasnt thinking. I think I can use it for my rub rail support and the gas tank/fresh water tank platforms as well as other small platforms. I didnt think to research marine, I just always hear use teak or oaks. I just cant decide what to use for avatar. I forgot how to resize images when I deleted it. Im about to paint the boat name on, it will take close to 60 hours. Relaxing fun air brush work. I want it as my avatar and I have all I need here to do it already...so I may start it soon. I know it should be last project but im a painter so its eatin me alive LOL

you could use the wood to mount your windows.
