Installing "crash valves"

I'm going to be installing crash valves on both engines and wondered if anyone has done this. If so, what valve did you use? Am also thinking of locating them on each side of the aft deck so they're easy to get at. What I'm wondering is this too far above the waterline/raw intake for the cooling system???

The valves are normaly installed at your engine thru hulls

I ended up using the Grocos for my project. I really like the thought of the added protection. They do have seacocks with built in crash valves but they are very expensive. The Grocos I used just attach to the top of your regular seacocks. On page 6 of my project thread you can see pics. cheers.

mine are very simple and pics were posted several years ago.
we added a Tee into the raw water intake, ahead of the strainers along with a simple ball valve.
Make sure the inlet gets down into the bilge bottom.
worst case scenario you would close the seacock and open the crash valve.
This is a great time to add a fresh water flush to the raw water system to get more years out of your cooling system components.
