I had to re-core part of each of my engine hatches and the entire small one under the rear benches. In the process, all of the original insulation was destoyed. I upgraded that to 1.5" from .75", I'll let you guys know if it makes a big difference in noise reduction.
The other thing I did was make the swim platform step centered in the transom cutout and slightly larger. I did that by routing a piece of 1" teak using the original step as a base. I used 5200 and 4 screws underneath to secure it. By dropping it down about an 1", it covered 3 of the 4 original bolt holes so I only has one bolt hole to patch.
The step is almost the entire width of the cutout now so you don't really have to think about where it is when you step out. This has been more of an issue for me during the winter when I can't "see" the step with the shrinkswrap on.
