Morning Gents (and ladies). I removed my raw water pumps back in the fall to do impellers. Now I'm putting them back together and can't remember which way they go?? This pic is my Starboard motor,(right hand rotation) it made sense to me to have the intake and output ports facing towards the left, as you know the ports are not in the middle, this way with the motor turning clockwise it would suck up raw water from the bottom.I did the exact opposite to the Port motor, turing the housing so the ports are facing towards the right (if that makes any sense?) Please tell me if this correct I don't want to start it with it being in wrong.

my pumps look simular to yours and can be used on either engine. they are marked on the back as far as which way is in and out of the pump according to rotation. they can be flipped to make either work on any rotation engine. try your best to get em rite and as long as you are feeding water into the sytem via the strainers or if your in the water you can staert the engine for a minute and make sure water is coming out the exhaust.if so your ok good luck.

Ah the 318 water pump; always always mark them before you remove them! As mentioned above, check to see if markings are still visible. You can also test with hoses and pail of water and rotate manually in the same direction of engine rotation. If you understand the principle of pump operation, you can open it up and determine in and out based on rotation.

I just did mine. Check the rotation of the pump when the vains come across the section of the pump with the screw on the bottom they are flat and move no water when they open they suck in water at that opening and when they close again thet push the water out the other opening so it depens on the rotation of the pump whitch one is in and whitch one is out this way the pump will work in eather rotation

Thanks guys, I also did some research,I'll have to flip them both since they're both backwards. THanks for the replies.
