Gents,

I'm getting ready to put some new shafts in as well as cutlass bearings, stuffing boxes, flanges, etc. Anyone know what size cutlass bearings I need? Obviously 1.25 ID but I haven't been able to get the old cutlass bearings out so I don't know what the OD is. Also, I've noticed several different type of cutlass bearings, any particular ones better?

For the flacking (or whatever its called) I remember that a certain brand is well respected but I can't remember what it is now. I think I need 1/4" ? Anyone know how many rounds per shaft? I've seen how its done, so no need to post the infamous pbase link.

Mark,

My guess is that you have the two struts per shaft setup with the 1.25" shafts.

I suggest you contact Beacon/Marine Tech and ask Bob or John, and advise as to how many struts/shaft you have.

I went to dripless shaft seals and changed out the shafts/struts with the diesel upgrade so I will be on no help to you on that side.

yes, it's quarter inch Gore-tex packing. 3 rings is tight, no more than that. It's basically dripless if not over torqued.

Definitely make the cut out piece of pvc tool shown on that website, it makes it really easy to push the packing into the shaft.

1 3/4 outside diameter front strut

2" diameter rear strut

I took shaft off but if cutlass were removed with shaft still on (special tool) you could slip front cutlass through bigger diameter rear strut to get to/on front strut.

Pbase has good instructions to get cutlass in and out too

Bob at beacon has the exact ones needed on hand and that's who I bought them from

If u take shaft off mark bolts and positions on flange so bolts go in same holes they came from
