Anyone know if the reduction ratio is stamped somewhere on the v-drive? The manual says the gassers on the 10.8 express came with a 2.5 to 1 reduction at the drive, but the original shipping papers for my specific boat say that the gear was 1.7 to 1. Considering that it's turning a 22 x 22 wheel with a 1 1/2" shaft I'm more apt to believe the manual, but i wanted to verify. When i asked John Leed he thought it was 2.5 but he wasn't positive eirher.

I have a walters manual, there are MANY models. Need that to start, then within that model you select gear ratios based on HP driving it.
My tri has RV-40 in it. Thats a 2.04:1, HP rating of 8, which means you take the top RPM/100 * 8 = MAX HP the drive can service.
Many options and ratio, don't see a 1.7:1 though on the charts but this is a 1975 chart too.

there should be a number on it . I would would be inclined to believe its 2.5 over 1.7 . you would not be able to turn those wheels with a 1.7

Thanks....Walter says there is suppose to be a brass plate with the serial number and gear ratio on the bow side of the drive, but I can't seem to find it. I'll keep looking.
