rapping/popping sounds from a 440 chrysler on a sea voyager

I lost the exhaust manifold on the reverse rotation chrysler 440 engine in my '72 42' sea voyager. Upon putting on the new manifold and taking it out for a test run, I am getting an erratic popping/rapping sound when the engine is under load over 1500 rpm, increasing as rpms increase. It almost sounds like it is misfiring and seems to be running a bit rough at that speed. Could we have screwed up the timing by twisting the distributor during the calisthenics needed to install the manifold? Does anyone know the firing order for a 440 reverse rotation? I live in the wilderness and marine mechanics here with an IQ over 60 are few and far between. Any help would be appreciated...

Try 12756348. Normal rotation F/O should be 18436572

Rossjo I think the rotaion noted on your fireing order is the distutor rotaion not the engine rotaion .

The noise you're hearing could also be an exhaust leak between the head and new manifold due to not all the old gasket being removed.

we found the problem...it was a broken/bent push rod.

sounds like you may have compressed a lot of water to do that ...
