Installed and works like a charm

Had this discussion before.
Went ahead and installed new distributor, works like a charm, no more stalling at the crucial docking. Mechanic adjusted the advance curve as per required using electronic gadgets and equations... Don't ask me the details, I am totally out of my ballpark on that.
Timing was done, spark plugs changed along with new wiring.

I also installed rope lighting under the Transom, pic is using a cameraphone, so not the best

Is that an electronic ignition/distributor? It looks different than a typical distributor. If so, what kind is it?

That is based on the system that came out in 1975 on most GM cars . Its a great system , however even thought they are sell them for marine they do not meet the USCG requirements or have not gone thru the certification . I was looking at using a set on a boat I was working on , when I check on the marine units I was told they where for racing and cert was not needed . also vacuum advance units( as the photo shows) are generally not use for marine . The one that Tocan installed has no vacuum advance
With that said I like that system better than any ignition system made , and if some made a USCG approved on it would be great. If someone sells them and has gotten the approval please let me know as I have been looking ( not for my diesels LOL )
In Canada they are not under USCG so not sure what is needed.

Torcan, I'm familiar with those distributors but have never seen one in a marine application. That is not to say that a marine version isn't out there but I'm pretty sure the one in the picture is NOT for a marine application. If you have the same one with the vacuum advance, I suspect it's automotive. If that's the case, it is not designed to be vapour proof for a marine engine compartment. Can you please confirm and let us know.
