Me an a buddy are looking for a place to do some diving around southern Ontario, thinking lake Erie or maybe Georgian Bay, we are doing a Kingston run later this year. Anyone dive in these areas? If so any tips or suggestions? Any recomended charters? Are there any divers here that might like to go? I am planning on a few dives off my boat but lake Ontario here does not offer much. As a bit of background I am padi certified since 2001 and my buddy is a padi dive instructer.
Lastly is this the right place to post this? I thought pontifications, but this does involve boats and I do not know how often people go there. I know I only go to pontifications to see if Tuck is posting his silliness!

I used to dive, but I don't think I have suited up for about 20 years.
Kingston area is supposed to be good.
Tobermory used to be a popular spot, several shipwrecks to dive on. Many dive clubs use the location for checkout dives.
I also know a guy who dives in the Niagara River a lot. I think he usually goes with his dive club, but he has just 'buddied up' and gone without the club a few times too. I can get some details from him if you are interested.
When I dove up here it was Tobermory, but after being spoiled by Cozumel and Cuba - temperature, water clarity, the fish and reefs - it became harder to convince myself to get back into the colder and darker waters around here.

had to laugh reading that last bit... I was diving in Cuba just in March off Veradero, and the previous march I was diving in Cozumel! Yes I would be interested to see about your buddy, as niagra is only an hour from here

Pelee Passage in Lake Erie has many wrecks which are good dives. Many of them are in the 40 ft deep range which equals lots of bottom time. They call the dive park Erie Quest. A good contact for charters is The Dive Shop in Kingsville, the owner's name is Art - 519 733-5141

What I am hearing is Welland Canal and Niagara river (drift diving) are options, but not a huge amount of stuff to see. Some fish. In the Welland the dive clubs have sunk some stuff for you to dive on (a couple of boats, cars, a patio set (woohoo!!). Gotta be careful in the Niagara - a couple of years ago some divers read the river wrong and ended getting sucked into the turbines for the power generating station. The turbines won.
You could check with a place like Dan's Dive Shop in St.Catharines for info on places in the area, or getting in on one of the club's dives.
As for Kingston - I am hearing its okay but maybe not the best. There is also a question of how good (reliable) the Dive Charters are. My buddy says he would be very careful about trusting operators in Kingston (one left a diver behind last year), but that Brockville has better operators and more to see in terms of wrecks.
And that's all I know!
