Hi all my name is Jon. My father-in-law and I recently traded a Galaxy fishing boat for a 1978 F30 Clean Machine. We have been working on it for the last month or so and needed a lot of TLC.

I was wondering how many other people on this forum have Clean Machines and wouldn't mind sharing some pictures. We had to replace the port side cabin wall along with the bulkhead due to rot. Both the rear deck and motor deck are being rebuilt and I am trying to get some ideas of how to do the finish work based on what other people have done.

Everything below the hull is in great shape. Motors and tanks were replaced in 2006 and the bottom was soda blasted and barrier coated. Unfortunately the guys who did the work did a nice job on the mechanical end but had no idea how to put a boat back together in terms of keeping water out.

Here are some pictures of the boat from the guy we got it from. The rest are from the work we have already done.

Replace the port side wall and bulkhead. All the interior has been taken out and recovered (no pics yet). We tore out all of the old deck and have it framed in. We are going to lay down 3/4" Marine Ply and Rhino line the entire back deck.

We are using some fiberglass hatches off an old Luhrs to replace the old wooden ones and making the starboard one hinged.

Still a lot more to do but we are trying to get it in the water for August. Working on it every day after work and all weekend. Paint is going to be Dark blue and gold instead of Green.

I would suggest googling the model and looking at Craigslist for photos.

I do it all the time and get great ideas.

We too are new Trojan owners. As you can see from the avatar an '78 F32 Express with a hard top. Wow, I thought we had a construction job refitting our sailboat; the main reason we purchased Desperado as we're going through a refit on our 50' Ketch while wanting to be back on the water for the summer. Bought this nice, clean F32 (and will share some forthcoming pics) from a friend who had moved to a newer Hatteras 36 Express. Desperado has some issues, but a lot of them are just plain age related and can be dealt with one step at a time. After reading reviews of the F32, I've come to the conclusion, most of them are "spot-on". Definitely NOT a rough water boat. We maidened, sea trialed and power tested on the same day with a 15-20 knot blow and 5-8' water at 40-60 seconds from the SE on a SSE heading at 10knots. As predicted the bilge took on water but the forward pumps mostly took care of the water as the stern pump wiring had rattled loose (now repaired without electrical tape and marrets) sometime in the crossing to our new home port had quit. Desperado is our first gasoline powered boat and I had to muster some shelved mental skills from a previous life on the recommission (as she had been on the hard for over a year). Finally, sucked it in and flushed the tanks, lines, water separators; replacing all filters and both carbs (but not after trying a backyard rebuild). She's got a damned fine throaty moan that put a smile on my wife and turns many a SeaRay owners' head. Well back to today's project; figuring out why ALL the fuel gauges don't work, my guess a faulty ground at the block, or???

Check to ensure all the tanks are still grounded.
