Upper helm steering stiff

Hello again
I will be asking a ton of questions on this forum as I'm a DIY guy. I had my newused f32 out and found the upper station helm very stiff. I tried the lower and it's fine. Any ideas. The previous owner had told me that he had resealed the lower pump. Could I have air in the upper one? If so can I just crack the lines and work the air out. Trying to get pics posted but having a little trouble..

Do you know what system you have , is itHynautic ? to bleadthat system it involves turning 2 valves , I am trying to find the instutions . what fluid are you using ?

Yes it is hydraulic. It looks like I have to charge the system with air up to 40 psi. The resvoir is mounted on the transom under The aft hatch. I have only had the boat for a little over a week and have spent most of my time cleaning it. I did find a bottle of tela flex fluid. I will be at the boat tomorrow night..[/b]

I just did this two days ago. The relief valves are opened by loosening to pinned nuts at the base of the resevoir. By loosening the nuts, the oil cycles through the helm without moving the steering cylinder. The oil flows and the air is returned to the resevoir. I doubt that is your problem, air in the line makes the wheel easier to turn. Sounds like the helm could be binding

When I asked is it was Hynautic thats a brand of hydraulic steering , I too don't think its a air issue you bleed as stated above if Hynautic . still looking for intuctions I had with pics

Due to the way the lines are ran the could be a factor along with them being longer . the upper helm could have more wear on it also . My upper helm is harder to turn also , always has been . But its not hard to turn by any means .
If your is too hard to turn then then there could be crimped line or may be some thing is put together wrong in the helm when it was resealed .

One other factor in the upper helm being stiffer in the case of some boats ( like my F 36 ) is the lower helm has a bigger wheel then the upper , so between that and the longer lines (with more bends ) can make it hard also . Compare yours to another if you can to see if its too stiff
