LED Light Recommendations

Salon 12v overhead lights are very yellowed and dim. Any recommendation/experience with LEDs that have a reasonable light angle and output would be appreciated. Thanks

I just replaced all of mine with these,my cabin lights are 1156's.Nice and bright!

Thanks, that's an option. I was thinking of replacing the housing and all..............mine's pretty well corroded and negelected by the PO. The overhead AC tube units are not good either and may also have to be replaced.

RV stores have some options similar to the original housings.

Hey Lawman, do those blubs from your link simply go into the existing overhead lights? I want to change my blubs to LED but not the housing....Thanks..........John

Check out kaperII .com lites. Used the double pancake lamp. Works great but I should have ordered the warm white leds. The daylight leds are really bright.

I just replaced my courtesy lights on my Ten Meter. I bought 3 red and 3 blue for $8 total. will post pics later. I bought them at superbrightleds.com

i bought my dome lights from west marine, they were like 30 bux for the whole thing with 9 LEDS i think it was... work great in my main cabin, they have individual switches that's why i purchased them.... i didn't want to run a switch for the lights

Ok, I hate to be stupid but I am not an electrician.
Do I have this right?
I can buy LED bulbs and put them in my existing 12v lights?
LEDs are supposed to be cooler right? I dont want to melt the shades.

Careful here....there seems to be different type lighting in cabins. I checked with lawman above and in his 1973 clean machine they were a direct replacement, plug and play. I ordered some and they don't fit in my 1972 Sea Raider. My are halogen so I think they were replaced at some time. I'm still trying to decide what to do........replace all the fixtures or steady as she goes............John

That's pretty much correct, you just need to know the type of bulb base you need; there are several standard types so ensure you get the right ones. As noted there are different white tones you need to consider. Good units will have wider voltage tolerances which is good for marine applications. You want ones that will handle voltages above 12 when dc system is being charged. Yes they are cooler but there are some high powered units that generate heat and use heat sinks. In general for interior lighting, the amount of heat is negligible.
