I am looking for Vhf antenna for my F36. I have no idea which one I should get. Any help would be great. Also when I get back from Afghanistan I am going to be asking alot of questions and needing alot of help to get her back on the water next season. I dont have a huge budget as an enlisted man in the Army so I will be doing 99% of the work myself. With the help of a buddy or 2 here and there I have asked the marina that I have her at, do an inspection but they have not responded
Thanks,

Antenna selection has a lot to do with how you use your boat. The taller the antenna the farther the radio can transmit. If you stay in the bay you would not need a real tall antenna, 5'-8'.
I'm in Lake Erie OH, and I have an 18' antenna which should allow for a 10 mile transmission.
Here is a good article that explains mounting and hieght/distance.
Thank You for your service dude!!! Be safe and when your ready you'll get all the help you need right here

If you plan to go offshore, the tall antenna is a must ...
I have a 16' on one side (Shakespeare 532-VW) and a backup 8' on the other side. Its also good to have 2 radios and 2 separate antennas offshore (or on the Great Lakes) - just in case.

I just ordered a 17' one to replace an old 8' one that was on the boat when I got it. There is a second 8' antenna on the port side which I will probably replace with an AM/FM whip, and use my Icom VHF with remote Mic on the bridge with the 17' whip.

Man you guys are great!! I still cant view it but thats fine I cant really do anything just yet anyway. I do know I will need a tall one as I plan on going out diving and deep sea fishing. I like to explore as well

The higher you mount it the better . I have 2 ) 8' mounted on the hard top ( 6db) and a 17' (8db) on the side ( braced by the hard top) the 17' is slightly taller the all have great range . Why 3 ? 2 VHFs on the flybrige and 1 on the lower helm .
The higher you can get them the better the range .

Thanks for the info. I had planed on having 2 VHFs 1 on flybridge and one inside. She is in VA right now and will be there till I find a good place to have her moved in NC.
