Fuel gauge issue

Hey guys,

Hopefully some of you can shed the light on an issue!!

As you may or may not know, I recently purchased an '84 Trojan Int'l Express

I've filled the boat up several times, as I do not trust the fuel gauge yet and anytime it's filled, it only shows 3/4 of a tank.

When it drops, it fluctuates like crazy and I do understand that it probably would as the fuel sloshes around in the tank.

Just wondering if someone has had a similar issue and where I should start looking?

Thanks guys!!

Check your connections at the gage, sender and engine harness. Check grounds. You are getting a sweep but to check that you can get a full sweep, temporarily short the sender post to ground at the tank. If you get a full sweep at the gage, chances are the gage needs to be replaced. If you have to replace the sender, ensure the one you get is of a compatible impedance/resistance value with your gage, they must match or it will not work properly. Keep us posted.

My 1988 F-36 has the same problem of not showing full. The length required to reach the bottom of the tank makes the arm with the float on it longer then the fixed portion, when you fill up the float hits the top of the tank and can't register as full. I am using some generic sending units from Tempo, but will be upgrading to custom senders I saw in some older posts. Here is the website. http://www.wemausa.com/
