Canvas repair

my fly bridge enclosure has a few holes that have developed over time and i was thinking of figuring out a way of fixing it as the 7k+ quote to replace it is definitely not in my budget so what i was thinking of doing is puting a few repair patches on it and then waterproofing it (at least for now)

has anyone used this stuff?
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... CcG5PJ5d_M

or can recommend anything better? also a good non silicone waterproofing spray?

any ideas?

in my opinion, 303 fabric guard is the best product available for waterproofing and protecting your canvas. Just treated mine and water runs off it like water off a duck! Here's a link to the manufacturer's website:

I've used it to repair tears in my bean bag chair.

It is still holding strong. It didn't go on easy because it was not a flat or easy tear.

Give it a try. What do you have to lose?

Thanks a lot for taking the time to post that :) its not that i cant look it up or don't know how, its just that im working with dial up on this boat and loading pages such as eBay or amazon or anything with lots of pictures (such as Facebook) takes 20 minutes... making it very frustrating sometimes, im just glad that this forum is light on that stuff thus i can just check up on it frequently :) took me almost 30 minutes to contribute to the forum the other day :)

Formula 303 stuff is great - have used it for years. Plus that's what Sunbrella recommends for replenishing the waterproofing of their canvas products.

dully noted :) now if there was just a way to tell what fabric my top is made out off.... , but will definitely order some, doubt ill need a whole gallon but that 32oz bottle will probably do the trick... now to just find a patch before the 303 stuff... imana order a few of the ones i linked and see if they hold

Canvas patch

Why can't the local canvas guy just sew on a patch for you? We patch tops with holes and tears all the time, and seams where the thread is rotted. Of course your canvas has to be repairable, not dryed out and starting to rot. I wish we could get 7K around here to do that.

ive attempted the route of repair, every canvas shop that ive been to doesn't even want to touch a repair... and the 3 guys that did come out to give me a replacement quote were through the roof priced... the cheapest estimate i got was $1500 per side which didn't include any metalwork or hull snaps, just the actual enclosure

whats the average cost of a full enclosure where your at?

We are working on a full enclosure design which includes covering the rear cockpit to minimize water leaks. You must have the original bows for the front bimini top. Then we add a 1" stainless bow, about 6" or a little more, rear of the bridge seat. Independant of the front bows. This allows for full bridge coverage and support for the rear enclosure, covering the rear cockpit. This also allows for full movement between cockpit and bridge area. If you look at the picture of my boat, you will see the stainless bow I am talking about. Depending on what prices are at for supplies when we do one, we do the complete package for around 5K. We provide all mounting hardware, 1" stainless bow, new bimini or navy top some call it, side curtians, full rear encloseure with rear door zippered for entrance from swim platform for a do it yourself project. Bow must be truck shipped due to it's size. If you don't have the front original bows we can make them for additional cost. If you want you can send me pics of the repairs needed, and I will let you know if and how much to repair them if you ship it to me.

Vitaliy, the enclosure I quoted is for a 36 tri cabin with a rear cockpit. I didn't see what type of boat you have. Sorry my dad died yesterday, I am not thinking straight. If it is a different boat let me know, but I still might be able to repair what you have. Send pics. I am also going to Connecticut and can stop on my way back to look at it, if you like.
