Anyone know about how much awlgrip paint is needed to paint the hull of a 10 meter? I have one kit of cloud white ordered (1gal paint, 1 gallon activator) but I'm thinking of painting the hull Sky blue. Have only found it sold by the quart and since the first paint/activator/primer order was $925 I don't want to buy more than I need.

Calculation are tough. You have to have all space ready at one time to reduce waste. F-25 32 feet of hual was 2 gallons in black base coat. Black covers a lot better than white in any product. Blue would cover better. Awgrip is single stage to my understanding. 10 meter on 3 sides I would think 2 gallons If you are spraying at their recommended 1.6 to 1.8 fluid tip. Base/clear system is another story..... You need 2 good coats to protect properly with single stage over primed non-sealed areas. If you base/clear like me, well lol I'm over 1200$ just in clear coat.. It's a better lnger lasting job though.... Awgrip and alexseal have the same components as any automotive paint. You can get the the same or better job for less.

Saying Awlgrip is the same becuse they same componets . is like saying a auto altanator and marine are the same becuse they both are made of copper and steel . Just not the case .

As far as how much to use that info is avalable from awlgrip or alexseal .

so if 2 cups of water that have the same ingredients, are they are still different? were not talking about metals like your auto parts, we are talking about chemicals, again weve been over this many times latly. Couple of people here even said they have confirmed with the companies that the ingredients are the same minus the flex add. Same is same IMO. You dont have to spend big bucks on everything just because its a boat. Yes! Awgrip, Alexseal, Dupont, SW, etc... single stage, base/clear systems. are 98% all the same. Some are just labeled marine and look what happens to the price... I have painted boats on the saltwater daily from 10 years ago, still no problems :roll:

Jeff Sorry I will have to strongly disagree . There is alot more then the label . I am not a painter for sure but I have been involved indirectly . If its the same why do so many of the top yards use AWLGRIP or alexseal ?

If paint was just thinner then your compairing water to water
argument would hold water . Do pepsi coke and RC taste the same ? they have the same ingredients so they must .

for my f36 3 gallons of interluix were enough for 2 full honest coats, had a tad bit left over

I just finished doing my radar arch with awlcraft 2000. I had a buddy do the spraying for me. He has experience doing cars. Spraying the awlcraft was definately different and he could not believe the how forgiving and how nice the paint went on. He definately said it required a little different spray technique. I love awlgrip and would definately recommend it. Its not cheap though.

I read that the awlcraft 2000 was great to spray and very easy to work with. I went with the regular awlgrip because it is a much harder, dense finish. It is supposed to be alot harder to spray. Event though I'm having a professional spray the finish coat I Hope I made the right choice. From what im finding out it looks like I may need 2 more kits of awl grip, I have a 2 gallon kit that should do the topsides and cockpit. If I go with a color on the hull I'll order another 4 gallons so I have alittle extra for any mistakes.

A: To determine the amount of bottom paint needed for your boat:

Total Surface Area = Length x Beam x 0.85 x 1 coat
Gallons Required Per Coat = Total Surface Area/300 sq-ft


(just tried the formula and it shows i have 397 sq feet, so i need,and have used, 2 gallons of bottom paint.)

since he said "hull" i thought we were talking about bottom paint as well

Sorry for the confusion guys, I'm painting the hullsides and topsides. Not quite ready for bottom paint yet.
