soooo took my new to me f25 out Friday, and it seems really loud, is this normal? is there a way to quiet it down?

Could be rubber mufflers MKII I think. When I pulled mine the baffles were burned out, I now have new mufflers to install. You cannot get the old rubber mufflers any longer at least I could not find them. This could be the problem assuming the "looud" was referring to exhaust note.

yes it is exhaust noise, it almost sounds like it is coming from under the floor or the dash, but I think it is just echoing from the rear exhaust. at 2500 rpm and up conversation is difficult, I am quite sure that it is not leaking under the fllor as the PO took excellent care of her!

although a warning that the fuse panel door opens at will, barking the shin of the driver would have been nice! OWWW! (3 times)

Your standing over top of the engine, on your boat you operate from the fly bridge. Ask the kids how noisy yours is when they are laying over the engines in the aft cabin

my f36 tri is a fair bit silent unless your inside the aft cabin...which is fairly much the engine room

Dave, Is there a muffler on the exhaust now? If not, install a Vernatone exhaust muffler (http://www.centekindustries.com), the same mufflers are on your F36. If there is one there now, the inside baffles are likely gone and it needs to be replaced. More money

I am not sure if there is a muffler on the f25 I am going down to check now. On the 36' flybridge the the one was hollow and the other was full of zebra mussels! However on the 36' the beds are insulated and the boat is now very quiet. Jimbo how much are mufflers approx? I will phone tomorrow but am impatient Is this like a $600 moment? would insulating the f25 floor help? Anyone done this?

The full vertone would not fit in my f28 so bouight their Mini through beacon they were I think about 129 @ don't hold me to it

and it was always a bit noisy, and I already stated that fact, that you are standing right over the motor.

i know, that's why i said it. it was a tongue in cheek comment.... no belligerence intended. sorry if it came over that way. evening pain meds are attempting to kick in, and i guess i'm not as aware as i normally am.

Didn't take it that way at all Aaron, I already pointed that out to Dave when he first posted, but it is true, the muffler may be bad, just never gave it much thought and I did think that the noise was normal

I think for the size you would need would not be more than 150

You might want to check the exhaust hangars. Mine are a thin stainless steel strap, and at certain rpm's the boat was really loud. Just by accident I had the hatch open when I was running checking things out and noticed that those straps were vibrating making noise, and they were attached directly to the frame of the deck. (I did have a qualified person at the helm) I have since insulated the straps with leftover material from the soundproofing project on my hatches. The annoying sounds I was experiencing that I thought were normal are pretty much gone. It's still a bit loud due to the 4" exhaust/low restriction muffler but not annoying, it does almost sound better than my Camaro. You might want to give components under the deck a good tug as well. I was surprised at what I found, a little here and there will make a difference. But you still are standing over the engine

thanks for the replies all! Heres hoping Jimbo and Larry are in the ballpark for the muffler, I am going to look into this further.
