All, It's been a while since I posted but I'm still here. Had a wonderful season minus the fuel pump issue I had but has since been remedied. Now she's out of the water and on the hard till next season.

Anyway, here's my question. What would cause the condenser to go bad. I've had two of them get hot on me and go bad. Luckily, last time I was out and it happened, I had a spare one. I don't know if maybe I have a short or a faultly regulater. Both times its gone out on me, it's acted like it was starving for fuel. Sorta like sucking the last little bit out of the tank. The multimeter was my friend on this one. If it weren't for my trusty multimeter, I'd still be on the water trying to figure out the problem. Anyway, I put the spare in and she fired right up.

Any thoughts......oh, and don't mind my miss spellings.......

What engines? Are you running with external ballast resistors, like Chrysler?
If not, do you have the correct coils, internally resistored or requiring external ballast resistors?

Stripermann2, This is a 1965 AMC 327 "Grey marine Fireball V-8" (original engine to this old classic). It has the external ballast resistor on it as well.

It's been difficult to find replacement parts. The current coil is a cross refrence to the original along with the points and condenser. It's possible their not matched correctly...

Would like to convert it over to an electronic ignition if I can get the correct information on it. Until then, I'll stick with the dying art of gapping.

Jim, after a quick search, it seems that Mallory makes an electronic distributor for your 327. Part Number YLU35900CV. Call them direct at 216-688-8300.

wow jamie, what a mitzvah you just did today. we are lucky to have you in the forum. so, what did you do for this person? is it a conversion? a replacement? i'm a little (actually a lot) foggy today. it has NOT been a good day.
