10 meter bilge pump/high water alarm wiring?

Can anyone tell me the correct way to wire the bilge pump/ high water alarm on a 10meter? I coppied the one bilge pump that I didnt tear out but it dosent appear to be correct. I connected one thin wire from each float switch with the brown wire from the pump then connected that to the hot lead, I connected the black wire from the bilge pump to the ground, then connected the remaining thin wire from each float switch to the red alarm wire on the boat (thats how it was wired but the last part does not seem correct to me).
My issue is that my horn is currently removed so I cant actually test it. When I energize the bilge pump the float switch works like it should however I hear a clicking noise from behind the panel. I'm thinking the the clicking is the alarm relay/flasher or whatever you call it that would enerigize the horn then stop then re-energize like a car flasher.
If anyone can provide me the the correct wire conections it would sure help same me some time as I'm realizing the bilge on this boat was not designed for a 250lb man to climb in and out of numerous times!!
Thanks

Todd,

I can look at mine but not sure if I have the full factory setup. I only have the high water alarm on the rear pump. The forward engine room and cabin pump do not have it. Mine does work. You could probably hook up and 12v bulb in place of the horn to test. You coud even run some spkr wire so the light was nearby for testing.

Does anyone know if the factory only had an alarm on one pump or all three?

mine had all three. When I cut the stringers out I did not pay attention when I took the old ones out. I figured I could just look at the forward one and copy it. I was thinking the lite trick so I could check them. I'm pretty sure something isnt correct because of the clicking I hear at the panel. The alarm wire is a single red wire. it is fairly thick, maybe 12ga. The "Hull Wiring diagram" also shows an alarm on each pump.

my guess is the "clicking" is the horn relay.

It's a simple automotive style 12 volt relay.

1 hot wire

1 switch wire

1 horn wire

the switch in the bilge does not have to carry the full load to the horns.

it simply energises the relay.

my express (non-mid cabin) has THREE factory bilge alarm switches.

sorry I haven't been too active here as of late, been way too busy with a business project.

These bilge pumps are driving me nuts! I dont understand the wire detail below. The red 14ga wire is attached to the switch but then the hot lead bypasses the switch and goes directly to the pump???? is the alarm switch supposed to be on a seperate 14-2 wire (if so I dont have one)??? I think im missing something. I attached a lite to the horn and the clicking was the alarm activating the alarm/horn. the bilge pumps run off a float switch but can also be turned on at the panel bypassing the switch which would take 3 wires (white and black duplex and single red??) With the white going to ground the black wire is only hot when the switch is flipped at the panel to manually energize the pump. (I got pissed off and moved on the the next project at this point! Amazing how much easier is is to troubleshoot wiring with two people, doing it by yourself is a pita!)
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

That would be great if you could do that for me! I have tried just about every way I can Think of and for so reason cant get it correct.
Thank You

Todd,

just e-mailed you scans of my schematic (3)

Lets see if this clears things up for you.

Ok I figured it out!
There are two 14-2 duplex wires and one single red wire per bilge pump

one of the 14-2 wires is for the high water alarm, the other is for the "manual on" (IE bilge pump turns on when switch is flipped)

The red wire is the hot lead for the float switch (not alarm switch)

To wire the alarm simply connect the wires from the alarm float switch the 14-2 alarm wire, one to black, one to white. that's it!
for the blige pump and float switch . the white wire from the other 14-2 wire (ground) connects directly to the ground on the bilge pump (black wire on rule 1500 pumps)

the single red wire connects to one of the float switch wires

the other remaining float switch wire is combined with the brown "Hot" lead from the bilge pump and is connected with the black hot lead of the 14-2 wire.
