Check those Points...

I've been ignoring an occasional miss hear and there for a while. Last week she ran really rough above 3000 rpms so today I finally took a look under the distributor cap. Everything looked fine until I compared the points to the spare set of breaker points I had. Wow! The points that were installed were pretty much warn down to nothing. I couldn't believe the thing ran. I replaced them, set the gap and low and behold, the boat ran great. Bottom was a little dirty so she didn't get up past 3600 rpms. Feels good when you figure out and make repairs on your own.

Similar experience Friday with our other boat. Pulled my daughter skiing, dropped my wife off to get the trailer and no fire. That's weird that thing starts if you look at the key normally. Paddle back to the load out dock. Get home and pull the distributor cap. I normally have changed that every year, hmmm maybe it has been three years now. Center electrode for the coil was completely gone. Darn MSD ignition system! New cap and it starts on half a revolution again!
