No he won't see those in middle river he has to go out of middle river to the other side of hart-miller island to see them! And that requires leaving the dock! :P

Cool pictures! I crossed paths with a cruise ship a good distance offshore a few weeks ago and was shocked at how big of a wake it threw. Looked like a rogue wave coming at me and could see it coming for a good quarter mile.

There where 3 ships in a row , the wake from the first one .I turn into and buried the bow , the next 2 where not much only because had the camera ready to shot the bow going under . Of course the first one was going a lot faster .

@ Allen , Enterprise did make it out of the slip , he did post some photos of a raft up .

Did anyone not get out ? opps sorry

paul, seeing those container ships reminded me of when we took BUBALA 3 up the chesapeake during our summer cruises. brought back a lot of good memories seeing those pics. and thank you for the plug regarding enterprise. it was actually her second trip out. i know it's late in the season but i do what i can, when i can. i was only able to put a full tank of fuel in her a few weeks ago as a majority of my $$ right now is going to pay off hopkins bills. i'm sure that anyone on the site that has had medical issues will understand. remember too, my first mate is not exactly cooperative when it comes to just casting off and going for a cruise. heck, i didn't even expect him to show up on sunday, but, by hook or by crook, my neighbors already had plans for me to venture out for the day. this i will be doing on a regular basis i think as it gets me experienced and it's on my fuel dime. i know i'm coming across a bit defensive on this, but nothing pains me more to go to the marina and watch the boats leave the dock. it's gut wrenching for me, ask anyone that's around. i've already had offers for crew going forward, but, keep in mind, i fly most weekends and am off weekdays. it's not always easy to get one or two people to come out w/ me for a weekday jaunt up middle river. lord knows i've tried.

What about going out on your own? It should be easy to do on a calm day!
My boat is setup for that, windlass with helm controls and lines fixed to the dock..... And I have to climb down from the bridge to secure the lines a longer trip than from your helm.
While returning to the slip often someone is around the dock to give an extra hand.......
Try it you might like it........

i actually did go out on my own last year prior to chemo/radiation when i was having her hauled out. and yes, i LOVED being out on my own. i will be the first to admit, i lack the confidence to dock on my own. heading out is not a problem. it's getting back into the slip that i lack confidence. the shafts and props were just scraped this afternoon and i would have loved to take her out and run her up now that she is clean. the winds were not conducive though.... and yeah, i'd like it to be a bit more calm for that. i will get there, it's just going to take a bit more venturing out.
