F32 Swim Platform - Has anyone customized?

Post by 62jpod »

Has anyone changed from the standard Teak platform to something else? If you can provide pictures of what you have done that would be great! Just looking for ideas. While we like the teak, the crew is pushing for something more spacious and comfortable.
Thank you
John

I did not do the swim platform, but I did add a bow pulpit from Plasteak. It looks great and they made it to the exact dimensions that I wanted. They make swim platforms to spec also.

Hope someone finds this helpful. This is what we did with the rather narrow, stock Trojan swim platform.

My wife and I found the original platform to be a bit narrow and so we enlarged it by having four larger brackets fabricated and then by adding teak strips.

The enlarged platform is therefore still teak, but gives us six and one half inches of added depth, which may not seem like much but has worked well.

In one photo you can probably see that the original ladder is now landlocked, so to speak. We often use it for boarding from the dock as I usually back into my slip. Stepping down onto the platform is also easier with the ladder in it's current position.

The original ladder doesn't fold out into the water now, due to the added width of the platform, so for swimming I use a rather long, folding, boarding ladder that fastens to the side of the boat. It has four rungs underwater. I store the folded ladder under the aft cabin entrance steps.

thanks. mine is a 73 F322, i had the platform made 114*30 although I wanted to to 36 ... the salesman talked me out of it, looking back i wish i did go a little bigger but looks great, the picture shows kind of wierd on here, its on my facebook centered ImagePlasteak keeps their previous job sizes and dimentions on file. I went with all white because I have real teak all over and didnt want to mix it, they also have a 50/50 teak and white. Its basically trex and has been dourable, easy to clean, my only complaint is the hardware is kind of cheap and is stainless plated and i have some rust spots aroud the bolt holes and the ladder itself. I guess I should have rinsed down with fresh water more often, maybe that would help Image
