Anyone familiar with the clear vacuum hose that runs from the front of the carb to the fuel pump? The engine is running like crap, so I pulled off this hose and there is fuel flowing out of the hose from the fuel pump. The other carb has no fuel in this hose. As soon as I pulled the hose off the troubled engine, it immediately smoothed out.

Fuel pump has failed. This is doing what its supposed to do by sending fuel back to carb in event of failure.
Only marine fuel pumps do this as not to leak in the bildge. May have a pump at the house (new), will check later. Let me know if you want it and its yours. Fits crusader 454cu.in.

these style of mechanical diaphragm fuel pumps will give no warning before failure and should be replaced at least every 10 years IMHO.

If the other side or check valve fails it can fill the crankcase with gasoline.

I researched and bought mine at NAPA. Yes its a marine pump but at a far more reasonable price.

you can always keep one of the old ones as an onboard spare.
